Swop Shop video
I was asked by a Fashion student to edit together a video documenting an evening she put together as part of her course called 'swop shop'. she asked me to put it together to include: Text of the name and date, images of people trying clothes on and photos.
Its a short video but it gets the message across and has everything she asked me to do. (i didnt film it)

Mandy Applicants
For my 5/6th arefact i made a series of short pilots for my script 'In Decision'
To look for an actor i heard from my tutor of a website called mandy.com which does casting calls. I signed up and placed an advert which read:
"Director: Chris Robinson. I am looking for 2 Male actors aged 21+ to act in a short film exploring the roles of directors in adaptation.
The film is a short introduction to 2 soldiers caught in the middle of a battle stuck in a pothole with no weapons.
The filming is planned to be shot from the interpretation of 4 different directors of the same script, this would be a great experience for any actors looking to improve their emotion acting and following multiple direction.
The filming is planned to take place in the next 2 weeks. If you are interested in being part of this experiment please reply to the email."
I was suprised by the swiftness of the replies! i had 4 by the end of the day. They sent in photos which are below, can you imagine some of them running around having mud thrown in their faces??

Artefact 5 - In Decision interpretation x 4
After organising a day (today) to get my 4 directors, and my new actor together i now have 4 different interpretations of the beginning of my script. I asked each director to make a 20-30 second pilot. The day was a good success and im pleased with the final outcome. The conditions of the shoot were that each director used the same:
Actor
Location(s)
Voice over
and sound effects
Apart from those factors the directors were free to ask the actor to do as they wished. The next step for this artifact (5) is to show the 4 pilots to a focus group and ask them to choose the best one and why. This will lead me onto my 6th and final artifact!

'folio design...of the first kind
I have decided that instead of doing a conventional chunky DVD cover i will make a thin cardboard one - that could fit easily inside envelopes, making them easier to send out...clever hey.
The idea im going for is 'random' but still with form and all the necessities of a cover. i.e. short blurb about myself, contact info, screenshots and contents. Im making it in adobe illustrator, which is a programme i have limited knowledge of, learning as i go is working ok at the moment.

Barrys Artifact again.
After making a news article for a coursemates 5th artifact i was told it was not suitable and too silly. So i have re-done it, ive decided to keep with the jokey theme but have kept to the conventions of a standard news article. The premise i was given was to create a report about the recent bad weather and how it is affecting residence in Nottingham. Enjoy,

The lovely client that was...
After a complete shambles of a client project, things are finally looking up. I was messed about so much by my client that will remain nameless that i decided to take my offers elsewhere. i found a skatepark in Leicester called 'the boardroom' which is run by a guy called Dave. i approached him with what i had to offer and he was very keen to have videos made for some of his 'roughneck' riders.
I headed down to leicester on Monday to film and got some really good footage of 2 skaters - Jimmy and Josh. They're videos are here:- enjoy.

Prp
My personal research project is coming along good, i have written the script as my first artefact. my second artefact i asked 5 people to write a brief treatment of the script i.e. characters appearance and location, shots etc. the results came back and where rather varied, more so that expected. 2 directors placed the script in WW2, 1 in vietnam, WW1 and Iraq. When i wrote the script i was picturing a huge pothole in a destroyed city in a place like Bosnia for example.
It was interesting seeing how different people took on the script. The next artefact was to get an E-fit of everyones characters and then produce 'the perfect characters' fot the script. The faces that came out are below....:
i am happy with the faces that slowly formed infront of me on the E-fit programme (flashface.ctapt.de/) ....if you are interested.
My next challenge is to find these faces to possibly star in a sequence of the script or maybe even the whole thing...the search for Mr. Right continues....but not in THAT way!

Riders for Under the Hat clothing Client project
Filming for the new Under the hat website is due to be started in the next few weeks. Heading down to the company's home town(s) depending on the location of the riders. Me and the crew will be heading to either sunny AmazingStoke (basingstoke) or to sunny southampton. Fingers crossed its Basingstoke as Southampton is further...and not so sunny this time of year.
See below the talent that i will be filming for my client project. The 'Pro Rider' videos i am producing will be featuring on the new website being designed by Will Marshall.

Script is written, now artefact etc
Please excuse the format - seems to have messed up the alignment. This is the script i wrote for my first artifact, the plan is to get 10 or so directors to write a treatment for the script. The seconde artefact will envolve me analysing the differences between and then explore the reasons further in later experiments...Feel free to get involved!

BLACK SCREEN - SOUND OF BULLETS, SHOUTING AND EXPLOSIONS
FADE TO:
EXT DAY - WAR ZONE
A soldier runs frantikly across a battle zone without a weapon and
dives desperately into shelter. The mayhem is relentless in the backround
above the safety of the pothole. The soldier pats himself down and peaks over the top - only
to quickly pop down again.
VO -
My name is Private Dan Betts, 345637 - Royal Fusiliers. I grew up in Essex, dropped
out of school, did the usual run of the mill jobs then got bored of all that so at 19
I joined the army. What else could i do with no qualifications and being a shit didnt
help....looking where i am now i probably should have worked abit harder!
A grenade explodes nearby, showering DB in falling earth. The bullets and shouting carries on above.
Another quick look over the top and another even quicker duck down. DB sits looking around the
shelter he has found.
VO -
i decided to join because....well i had no other options and i would have ended up in prison,
that was 4 years ago. Anything criminal i might have done then i'd probably be out of prison
for it by now. Fuck it, knuckle down...'see the world son'....bollocks!
Another explosion, rubble and earth fall again. The bullets continue, the shouting carries on but there
is a louder scream coming closer, louder, closer, louder still. From over the top another soldier falls
into the shelter. Its Private George Simmons, he has a rifle but holds it like it scares him.
DB
Where the fuck did you come from?!!
GS
N---n--n-nnn-no idea, the whole squad is split up
dunno where anyone is, or whose in charge
and theres no way your getting me out of this
hole!!!!
DB
Ok Ok, calm down. We just need to find out what the fuck is
going on up there-
GS
Complete hell is whats going on up there! They've got us pinned
and i dont see a way out o-
Another grenade lands just nearby showering the pair with a heavy dusting of dirt. Making them lie down
in the fresh top soil.
GS
-Of here! Earl is down over the way and he had the
only radio...which got shot to shit!
DB
Lets wait here for extraction.
The two soldiers look at one another and then at their surroundings. neither speaks but the bullets carry on.
Some time passes, the pair remain silent while the bullets begin to ease off above.
DB
Right, theres no point just waiting here to die!
We can get to other shelter and get out!....
How much ammo you got in that?
DB gestures to GS's rifle which is lying by his side.
GS
1 magazine and i got this grenade as well
GS passes the rifle over
GS
Take it, I cant hit a barn door with that!
The sights all off.
DB
Yea....ok,
DB checks the rifle over, paying attention to the sight
DB (cont)
It seems fine, pass the grenade too.
GS reaches for the grenade but it is caught on his belt, he tugs it and the grenade flies into the air and lands
on the ground at DB's feet, the pin remains on GS's belt -
VO -
I'd like to say at this point that it is very rare that a man faces his imminent death like this,
well once really.....Typical sterotypes fly past me, birthdays, girlfriends, love, hate,
movies, music, food, pets, regrets, sex, life.....i can think of a million and 1 things i could say but, in
an embarisingly corny american way all that comes out of my mouth is -
DB
GRENNNAAADDDEEE!!!
The pair remain frozen in the presence of the live grenade at their feet.
VO (cont) -
Time slows, Sounds begin to disapear, maybe its the shear gravity of the situation but time
simply seems to stop....how long can a 6 second fuse be? I start thinking of ways i
could get away...Could i pick it up and throw it out of here?.....No probably not, it would blow
my face off mid throw.

Feeding back on the Feedback i got in the week of Feedback
Monday saw my first feedback session of the year and if memory serves - which it often doesnt - at universtiy but im probably wrong. Everyone recieved a 'tutor feedback report' for students to write notes on. Mine made sence at the time but looking back on it now it appears to be the scribbled writings of a 1970's maniac gonzo journalist who will remain namless, neesless to say im starting to get the fear - awaiting the loathing...
The notes read "DO JOURNAL!!!" "Email producer pimp my ride UK!" "Portfolio, Portfolio, Portfolio - ouTside work, website videos ----" the rest are in similar disjointed sentences but i think i know what needs to be done in the next few weeks, just a case of doing it!
Im still Organising the 'Under the hat' filming, should be around mid february, hopfully. As for my script for the artefact....its all abit disjointed in my head but just need to get it down on paper before week 25! Also i need to learn how to embed. in the words of one lecturer.....- much to do.
