Please excuse the format - seems to have messed up the alignment. This is the script i wrote for my first artifact, the plan is to get 10 or so directors to write a treatment for the script. The seconde artefact will envolve me analysing the differences between and then explore the reasons further in later experiments...Feel free to get involved!

BLACK SCREEN - SOUND OF BULLETS, SHOUTING AND EXPLOSIONS
FADE TO:
EXT DAY - WAR ZONE
A soldier runs frantikly across a battle zone without a weapon and
dives desperately into shelter. The mayhem is relentless in the backround
above the safety of the pothole. The soldier pats himself down and peaks over the top - only
to quickly pop down again.
VO -
My name is Private Dan Betts, 345637 - Royal Fusiliers. I grew up in Essex, dropped
out of school, did the usual run of the mill jobs then got bored of all that so at 19
I joined the army. What else could i do with no qualifications and being a shit didnt
help....looking where i am now i probably should have worked abit harder!
A grenade explodes nearby, showering DB in falling earth. The bullets and shouting carries on above.
Another quick look over the top and another even quicker duck down. DB sits looking around the
shelter he has found.
VO -
i decided to join because....well i had no other options and i would have ended up in prison,
that was 4 years ago. Anything criminal i might have done then i'd probably be out of prison
for it by now. Fuck it, knuckle down...'see the world son'....bollocks!
Another explosion, rubble and earth fall again. The bullets continue, the shouting carries on but there
is a louder scream coming closer, louder, closer, louder still. From over the top another soldier falls
into the shelter. Its Private George Simmons, he has a rifle but holds it like it scares him.
DB
Where the fuck did you come from?!!
GS
N---n--n-nnn-no idea, the whole squad is split up
dunno where anyone is, or whose in charge
and theres no way your getting me out of this
hole!!!!
DB
Ok Ok, calm down. We just need to find out what the fuck is
going on up there-
GS
Complete hell is whats going on up there! They've got us pinned
and i dont see a way out o-
Another grenade lands just nearby showering the pair with a heavy dusting of dirt. Making them lie down
in the fresh top soil.
GS
-Of here! Earl is down over the way and he had the
only radio...which got shot to shit!
DB
Lets wait here for extraction.
The two soldiers look at one another and then at their surroundings. neither speaks but the bullets carry on.
Some time passes, the pair remain silent while the bullets begin to ease off above.
DB
Right, theres no point just waiting here to die!
We can get to other shelter and get out!....
How much ammo you got in that?
DB gestures to GS's rifle which is lying by his side.
GS
1 magazine and i got this grenade as well
GS passes the rifle over
GS
Take it, I cant hit a barn door with that!
The sights all off.
DB
Yea....ok,
DB checks the rifle over, paying attention to the sight
DB (cont)
It seems fine, pass the grenade too.
GS reaches for the grenade but it is caught on his belt, he tugs it and the grenade flies into the air and lands
on the ground at DB's feet, the pin remains on GS's belt -
VO -
I'd like to say at this point that it is very rare that a man faces his imminent death like this,
well once really.....Typical sterotypes fly past me, birthdays, girlfriends, love, hate,
movies, music, food, pets, regrets, sex, life.....i can think of a million and 1 things i could say but, in
an embarisingly corny american way all that comes out of my mouth is -
DB
GRENNNAAADDDEEE!!!
The pair remain frozen in the presence of the live grenade at their feet.
VO (cont) -
Time slows, Sounds begin to disapear, maybe its the shear gravity of the situation but time
simply seems to stop....how long can a 6 second fuse be? I start thinking of ways i
could get away...Could i pick it up and throw it out of here?.....No probably not, it would blow
my face off mid throw.
